Adventures of I and J.

There are some things in life for which the timing is orchestrated so intricately, it can only be attributed to a divine movement of God. These two buddies are proof of one of those moments. ⠀

Last year for spring break, we had just finalized the big boys’ adoption; we had just been betrayed by the department so deeply and were beginning our fight in a losing battle, and I just needed an escape. I decided almost on a whim to take the kids down to Florida without Liam who needed to stay home to work and study. The dominoes also fell perfectly to allow our Eliza to drive down with me and be the best wing woman. ⠀

If you’re new here, Eliza started babysitting for us years ago and has since become part of the family. This was not the first vacation she joined us on, but I knew it would probably be the last. She had moved to a Idaho and been married for almost a year at that point, and I knew they were trying to start their family. I shared in her frustration that it wasn’t happening as fast as she’d like, as that was my experience as well. I even secretly brought this onesie with us on the trip, thinking maybe this would be the month. But alas it wasn’t. God had other plans. ⠀

There was something in the Island water that week because right after we got home, we both got pregnant, to Eliza and Levi’s utter delight, and Liam’s and my utter shock. 😂 (If you’re new to that story—we were absolutely not trying and it turns out a solo 1000 mile road trip with five kids will delay your cycle by TEN DAYS. Heads up. 🤦🏻‍♀️) ⠀

Our dues dates were a week apart, and it was so special to be able to share our pregnancies together from afar and watch her experience all those firsts that I so vividly remember longing for. And finally these boys of ours who kept us both waiting came exactly one week apart, Friday to Friday, IJ first and then Jethro. And you wouldn’t know it now, but we swear to you, that first month they were TWINS. It was so creepy but also kinda awesome as it was so bittersweet to be on opposite ends of the country. ⠀

But FINALLY this week that separation ended and we finally got these two best buds in the making together. It was adorable overload. Jethro is absolutely a first born, and was 💯 not about the level of noise in this house. There’s prob a five pound difference between them. J-man has the good grace to still be in his proper size range: 3-6 month, while I pulled IJ’s romper out of Aurora’s old 12 month bin. 😂 They both got to third wheel together on double date night, and we just had the best freaking week soaking up as much time as we could with each other. ⠀

Eliza, getting to see you in full mom life was so freaking awesome. You’re the kick ass momma I always knew you’d be from the way you loved my kiddos. I’m so happy to finally be able to love on yours! Now come back soon because everyone is asking for Je-fro. 😍😍😍
